Notes This text went through several versions and editions. The section 'Some Necessarie Remarks for such as Entend to Travel Thro the Province of Holland' also seems to appear in Carr's later 'The Travellours Guide and Historians Faithful Companion' (1695). Similarly, Carr's 'An accurate description of the United Netherlands' (1691), contains 'A Description of Holland with some Necessary Directions for such as intend to Travel through the province of Holland, Germanie, &c.', which seems to be substantially the same text. The later 'Travels through Flanders, Holland, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark' (1693), uses the same 'A Description of Holland...'. The title 'Travels through Flanders ...' was retained in later 18th Century editions. The fifth edition appeared London, 1725 and the sixth Amsterdam, 1744 (this edition has extra chapters describing the architecture and ornaments of the Guildhall of Amsterdam). Cox, Literature of Travel, lists these variant titles as separate works without noting their substantial similarity.
