His date of birth is approximate. He was a draughtsman and miniature painter who worked for many years in the Carrickfergus area of Co. Antrim. He had a drawing academy in Belfast. Most of his work portrays Irish coastal scenes, but he also worked in England and Scotland. Examples of his work are held by the Linen Hall Library, the Ulster Museum, Belfast Harbour Office, and the National Library of Ireland, Dublin.
