| Biographical Notes | Trained as a lawyer, Portiez was present at the siege of the Bastille. After 1789, following some years of activity in his hometown in various societies and as a journalist, he was elected as a deputy of his département to the Convent. He defended the education of humanities in a number of texts. Later, he is active in the administration of the recently occupied Belgian provinces. Towards the end of his life, he is professor of law in Paris. |
