Authorship Notes The section of advice begins with instructions for scientific observation to be made at sea based on Lawrence Rooke’s contribution to the ‘Philosophical Transactions’ no. 8 (1666), followed by practical instructions on eastern travel derived from Jacques de Bourges. The apodemic component of the discussion appears vol. 1, pp. lxxv-lxxvi, with the acknowledgement that ‘most of these general Rules may be found in Monsieur Misson’s Travels’, i.e. Maximilian Misson, A New Voyage to Italy, trans. from the French, 2 vols (London, 1695).
