The title of the book, 'La belle éducation', refers to the movement emerging at this time in France to turn education into a pleasurable process. Most of Bordelon's works consisted of compiled materials from previous authors, supplemented with Bordelon's own comments and glosses, and the two points on travel within this pedagogical essay (pp. 31-33 and 331-332) are no exception. Bordelon believes travel is useful as it forces one to leave the physical and intellectual comfort of home. Countries where debauchery reigns should be avoided at all cost, as such travels could lead to irrevocable moral damage. |
