A free translation of Lipsius's 'Epistola de peregrinatione Italica', otherwise titled 'De ratione cum fructu peregrinandi, et praesertim in Italia' (Letter to Philippe Lanoye, 3 April 1578). Stradling addressed the work to Edward Russell, third Earl of Bedford (1572-1627), who succeeded to the earldom in 1585 and was aged 19 when Stradling’s work appeared. See Monga, Hodoeporics, and Stagl, Apodemiken. On the content of Stradling's translation see Michael J. Redmond, 'Shakespeare, Politics, and Italy: Intertextuality on the Jacobean Stage' (2009), 51. |
