The brief section (vol I, 129-131 in the 1684 edition) on travels in this very popular handbook on education indicates already in the title that travels are recommended 'when one knows how to perform them'. Travel is not an absolutely necessary element of education for La Chétardie (as it is in Pelletier or in Baudoin) - it is a nice-to-have, possibly useful component, providing information and skills that might come handy one day. |
