Based on a letter featuring next to the text, the author of the dissertation no. 24. in the Lyon academic prize contest was a lawyer from Château-Porcien called Mennesson - probably Jean-Baptiste-Auguste-Prosper Mennesson, lawyer and briefly a politician during the Revolutionary period.
This dissertation, alongside no. 25 by Italian clergyman Idelphonso Valdestri (see entry), were submitted after the deadline of the contest, and could not be considered for the prize.
This essay was much lauded by the reviewer of the contest, count Laurencin - the comments (see on the author profile) suggest that he would have suggested to award the prize to it, if it was possible. It received some minor criticisms, mostly for its form and style, in the final 'rapport' of the jury.
