George Kearsley

Biographical Notes	Bookseller. The original publisher of John Wiles's 'North Briton'. Arrested in the wake of the notorious number 45 which criticized a royal speech praising the Treaty of Paris. Kearsley struggled with the legal expenses but undertook a number of other ventures including popular series of pocket ledgers, court and city registers, and annual tax tables, as well as literary magazines. Declared bankruptcy twice. See ODNB.
