The Preface "To the Reader" of Purchas's major travel collection contains a brief passage on the utility of travels for Gentlemen. He is generally critical of travel but makes the conventional distinction between the useful travel of useful men, and the useless exposure to moral and financial dangers abroad. This passage occurs vol 1 p. [ii]. |
