Though the title of this discourse might suggest a practical manual this work is largely an overview of ancient and modern literature. The work is in three parts. The first part is a summary of the Apodemic tradition which focuses upon giving an exhaustive account of ancient and modern authors for the traveller to consult (this apodemic chapter occurs pp. 1-32). The second section is a treatise of money, beginning with a historical and philosophical consideration and again summarizing many authors, before ending with a summary of contemporary currencies. The last section is a treatise of geography, again drawn from many authors but with some attempt to give an overview of contemporary usage. |
