Coryat's dedication to Prince Henry conveys his hopes that his work will 'yeeld some little encouragement to many noble and generouse yong Gallants ... to travell into forraigne countries'. He follows the conventional tropes of the praise of travel tradition by suggesting that the observation and languages of foreign lands are the 'principall meanes' to make young gentlemen fit for court and public service.
